Coat your sugar cookies in this yummy royal icing. This icing is deliciously sweet, beautifully shiny, and so easy to make!
About
This icing recipe is super simple, super delicious, and very pretty!
Usually royal icing requires egg whites, but it's actually easiest (and safest!) to buy a small tub of meringue powder and use that instead. Not only that, but it's a whole lot less work.
This icing is wonderful on my cutout sugar cookies recipe.
Key Ingredients
Meringue Powder
Meringue powder gives this icing it's signature shine, and helps it keep it's shape without needing raw egg whites. If you don't have any meringue powder on hand, you can make the icing without it. However, if you're able to get it, you'll be glad you did!
Notes
This icing should take about 2 hours to completely dry.
Avoid making this before you plan to ice the cookies, if possible. If you need to make it ahead of time, don't make it more than 24 hours in advance, and store in a bowl. Put plastic wrap directly onto the icing to avoid the top drying out, and store on the counter until ready to use.
